Great Anti-Cruelty News for the Beauty Industry

China Plans to Phase Out Mandatory Cosmetics Animal TestingHSI and The HSUS’ Be Cruelty-Free Campaign Celebrates Major Victory
Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the United States’ Be Cruelty-Free campaign welcomes the announcement by China's Food & Drug Administration that from June 2014, China plans to remove its mandatory animal test requirements for domestically manufactured cosmetic products.

For the first time ever, Chinese companies producing "non-special use cosmetics" such as shampoo or perfume will have the option to substantiate product safety using existing safety data for raw ingredients, or European Union-validated non-animal tests instead of having to submit product samples to the government for testing on rabbits, mice and rats.

HSI estimates that as many as 300,000 rabbits, mice and other animals may be subject to cosmetics chemical testing each year in China alone. The CFDA's announcement comes less than five months after the successful launch of HSI’s groundbreaking Be Cruelty-Free China campaign. Based in Beijing, HSI's team has been working diligently with Chinese policymakers and regulators to advance the acceptance of non-animal tests and accelerate a move away from animal testing. This culminated in the first-ever review of China's cosmetics law in 20 years, with Be Cruelty-Free China submitting a detailed technical proposal outlining cosmetics safety testing without animals. Troy Seidle, HSI's Be Cruelty-Free director, said: “This news from China marks a major milestone in our campaign and could constitute a significant watershed moment in our global effort to end cosmetics animal testing worldwide.

HSI's team has prioritised efforts to transform the future for animals in laboratories in China. This development is only the beginning of what we hope to be a paradigm shift towards 21st-century science without animals. We will meet with Beijing officials in the coming days to look closely at the detail of this cosmetics announcement, but it looks like there could at last be a bright future for cruelty-free companies in China and hope on the horizon for an end to cosmetics cruelty.” Initially the new rules will only apply to cosmetics manufactured in China. However, CFDA has stated that once the new system has been established, it may be expanded to include imported products and certain “special use” cosmetics as well. This would be a major step towards removing trade barriers between China and the EU, enabling cruelty-free companies worldwide to sell their products on the Chinese mainland without compromising their 'no animal testing' policies. Be Cruelty-Free will continue to work with Chinese officials toward a complete ban on cosmetics animal testing, and in the meantime will work with its cruelty-free corporate partners to assess the new system once implemented next year. HSI, along with The HSUS and The Human Toxicology Project consortium, recently awarded an $80,000 grant to the Institute for In Vitro Sciences to provide hands-on training in non-animal tests to China’s government regulators and scientists.

Be Cruelty-Free China is part of the largest campaign in the world to end cosmetics animal testing. Globally, Humane Society International and its Be Cruelty-Free partners are leading the charge to end cosmetics cruelty in Australia, Brazil, China, Korea, New Zealand, Russia and beyond. Be Cruelty-Free USA is spearheaded by The HSUS and Humane Society Legislative Fund.

New Treatments- Hyperbaric, Colonic, Matrix Generation and Far Infra-Red Sauna

New treatments are now available that are usually used in medical practice.

Everyone would like to look and feel younger than their years - and there are lots of products on the market that promise to help you do just that. These Four New unusual treatments are available from The Body Rejuvenating and Cleansing Clinic

However the fundamental key to anti-aging is to take out of your body what’s aging it and put into your body those things that will help it regenerate and stay looking and feeling young. In other words, if we can help our cells remain healthy, and encourage them to regenerate, then we can slow the aging process.

According to Jean Clarke of the Body Rejuvenating and Cleansing Clinic, there are four treatments which can do this very effectively. The results are not simply cosmetic; they make changes to the body which improve its performance as well as its appearance.

The four treatments, that used together, act as an anti-aging programme are; mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT), Colonic Hydrotherapy (CH), Matrix Regeneration Therapy (MRT) and Far Infra-Red Sauna (FIRS).

1)  Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)This is the cornerstone of the anti-aging programme. mHBOT delivers oxygen under pressure and causing a rise in the body’s blood plasma oxygen content. This results in enhanced oxygen delivery to the tissues, brain and organs of the body.

By spending time in an hyperbaric oxygen chamber (rather than simply breathing extra oxygen) additional oxygen is dissolved in the blood plasma and goes directly into the tissues. This stimulates the body’s own healing processes – and in turn helps the body to look and behave younger than its years.

2)    Colonic Hydrotherapy (CH)
The colon, or large intestine, completes the digestive process and handles our food and other waste. It is normally populated by billions of friendly bacteria which assist in detoxifying waste, synthesise certain vitamins and help us guard against infection.

Correct function of the colon is a necessity for health; research suggests that 80% of all diseased states start with a malfunction in the colon. And as our bodies struggle to deal with this we add additional pressure to the aging process – making us both look (in particular the quality of our skin) and feel older.

Colonic hydrotherapy is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of poisons, gas, accumulated faecal matter and mucus deposits. Using disposable equipment, filtered water is gently introduced into the rectum, this progressively softens and expels faecal matter and compacted deposits.

Most people quickly experience improved mental clarity, reduced bloating and a definite improvement in skin quality and clarity. In addition, as nutrients are better absorbed into the body, energy and general health also increases.

3)    Matrix Regeneration Therapy (MRT)
Matrix Regeneration Therapy has three components that work in parallel;
i) The Petechial Vacuum Extraction Massage - draws ‘old’ blood laden with toxins to the surface where it is removed via the lymphatic system. After a number of treatments tissue gets noticeably firmer.
ii) Systems Information Therapy - this neutralizes the toxins reducing the load on the immune system. Muscular tension and the internal organs are accessed via neural reflex zones thus achieving a deep internal effect.
iii) Direct Current Treatment - re-polarizes diseased tissue in order to stimulate regeneration of new, healthier cells.

All three components work together reinforcing each-others’ effects. The immune and lymphatic systems are stimulated, blockages are released allowing the flow of energy through the body and the stress overload on the brain’s central hormonal regulatory system vanishes.

4)    Far Infra-Red Sauna (FIRS).Far infrared energy improves circulation, and helps remove toxins from our tissues, which in turn encourages nutrients in to our cells.

Each day our bodies are inundated with a barrage of chemicals and toxins from the environment. These age us, slow us down, impair our immune systems and neurological functioning – and ultimately make us more susceptible to disease and the aging process.

We therefore need to reduce the toxic build-up in our tissues.  Far infrared therapy, through its deep heating effects, mobilises the toxins in our tissues and cells, increases circulation, and promotes perspiration – thus eliminating the toxins. Cell function and metabolism is therefore enhanced, slowing the aging process and improving the look of our skin – so we not only feel younger, we look younger too.

A programme using these four therapies together is more effective than the sum of the individual benefits of each therapy.

By using these treatments you will not only slow the aging process, you will start to look and feel younger too. You will feel healthier and more energised, your brain will be more alert and you will feel able to face whatever life has to offer.

It’s not yet possible to stop the aging process 100% but it is possible to slow it down and, more importantly, it’s possible to get back to the energy and enthusiasm of our younger years.

HD Brows Eyebrow Treatment Review

HD Brows Treatment Review

For the New Year I needed the quick beauty fix of HD Brows, that wouldn't break the bank and would give me an instant lift to my face. Too many Mince Pies and Sherry's had definitely made my face looked more bloated than normal over the Holiday Period, so I needed some immediate non-invasive face sculpting.
I booked in with Carly Davies, who is a renowned Brow Expert and Salon Owner in Hertford, at her salon Beyond Beauty.  They charge £30 for a HD Brows Treatment, which is a low cost considering that you only need a top up every other month after. The team at Beyond Beauty are very friendly and professional. It was great to see that Patch Tests and cleanliness of the highest level were carried out before and during my treatment.

About HD Brows at Beyond Beauty
Carly came across HD Brows when she co-owned a beauty salon with her friend 7 years ago.
Nilam Patel rented a salon room of them and specialised in Permanent Make-Up, Cosmetics and shaping eyebrows. Nilam started to devise HD Brows in 2008 as  Co Founder with Karen Betts, which was a system born out of threading, tinting, plucking and waxing to create perfect eyebrows. Even if someone has really bad shape or nothing left in terms of an eyebrow shape, this system creates a new shape and look. Nilam has never looked back from this successful new beauty empire which consists of HD Brow training, products and now a beauty line and Carly now trains people at the HD Brow Headquarters in Milton Keynes.
The shop Beyond Beauty is a boutique style salon in Hertford, where you can just come in and get your treatment done at their very own Brow Bar. As well as HD Brows, Beyond Beauty also has Waxing, Massage, Dermalogica Face Therapies, Crystal Clear Facials, Eye Treatments, Caci, Tanning, Men's Grooming and Carly even does Permanent Cosmetics, which after this treatment, I might start saving for the Natural Stroke Eyebrows.

Why have an eyebrow treatment?
I was attracted to this Eyebrow phenomena because of the recent trend that has seen eyelashes and eyebrows take front seat on the fashion trends thanks to models such as Cara Delevingne and the Barbarella look coming into Vogue. If you ever go to a beauty trade show you will now see the rows of Big Hair Extension pieces and Eye Treatments on offer. Eyes to me have always been important in being the first thing you notice about a person's face. So making a treatment that would enhance eyebrows to awaken the eye area makes perfect sense.

Cara Devevingne, the model of the moment has fantastic eyebrows
Barbarella is making a comeback- big eyebrows, lashes and big hair are all back!

So what are HD Brows?

HD Brows is a unique treatment to give you well groomed, high definition eyebrows. The HD Brows procedure transforms the way you look and more importantly, how you feel. Unlike other eyebrow treatments that us a 'one shape fits all' technique, HD Brows stylists access face shape and colouring before creating a bespoke brow, tailored for the client.

Using a combination of skills, from preparation and personal consultation to custom blending, designing, creating and tailoring the shape as well as customised aftercare, HD Brows stylists can transform a face to such an extent that the effect has been likened to a mini facelift.
HD Brows also offer the exclusive HD Brows make-up range, a collection of brushes, blushers, powders and palettes to suit every skin tone.

What Does The HD Brow Treatment Involve?

PATCH TEST: Before you can have the HD Treatment you must have a patch test at least one week before your treatment. This is a quick test that you can do in the comfort of your own home which just involves putting a strip test on your skin to determine if you will have an allergic reaction. If you see signs of redness, flaking or any irritation then you should cancel your appointment. This is rare though, and most people who get their hair dyed or get waxing won't be affected because your skin is not sensitive to this type of treatment. Make sure you get this done as you will have to sign that you have done this before your treatment and the salon will not be responsible for any reaction you have regarding the formula.

Next there is a 7 step procedure to HD Brows which promises to transform even the most over plucked eyebrows to enhance your natural facial features. I will talk you through my experience:

SEVEN STEPS TO HD BROWS:

STEP 1- CONSULTATION: Assessing your face shape, colouring and natural brows to determine the best result for you. Some clients can achieve the perfect HD Brow Shape on their first visit, whilst others ay need a few treatments and be advised to grow in more eyebrow hairs to get the best results. HD Brows can be thick or thin, dark or light, angular or soft. Whatever the current state of your brows, we will advise you on the process that is best or you.

Carly advised me that my eyebrows had half of them missing and were quite fair, so she explained that she would be shaping in some of my baby hairs and using a nice ashy tint colour to complement my blonde hair. To fill in the missing part of the eyebrow, Carly said she would fill it in with HD Brow make-up after the treatment.

STEP 2- TINTING: HD BROW treatment tints your brows, including the stray ones around the brow, so they get the best and maximum shape for you. The tint is a special, high pigment tint to give longer lasting results than traditional tints. They will mix the tint to your colouring and desired effect.

The tint was applied quickly over my eyebrows and only left for a few minutes before it was taken off again. I noticed that Carly free handed the application without vaseline as you do for normal eyebrow tints. This is so that Carly could get to the fine hairs.

STEP 3- WAXING:  Waxing is carried out above and below the brows to achieve the famous HD shape, ensuring the tailored finish to the face shape.

I'm not going to lie this bit is a slight wincy, but Carly was so quick at the waxing that the short pain bursts only lasted a few seconds.

STEP 4- THREADING: The 'fluffy' hairs surrounding the brows are blended into the brow.

Anyone who has had threading before will tell you that there is no pain, no gain. With a  slight crunching, pinching sound the hair is finely whipped out by thread and yes it does hurt but again, if you have a quick therapist like Carly then they can make it bearable. I also held my eyebrow and eyelid in place to stretch the skin so that there was a cleaner removal/less pain than just straight threading on the skin.

STEP 5- TWEEZING: Tweezing brows to fine tune the shape.

Here Carly just tidied up under my brow area and took away any loose hairs between my brows. Didn't hurt, just tickled.

STEP 6- TRIMMING: Trimming any long hairs so that all the brow hairs lie perfectly in their newly defined shape.

Tiny bit of trimming was needed on thickest part of my eyebrow.

STEP 7- AFTERCARE: Some clients will need a small amount of eyebrow pencil or powder to fill in any gaps whilst we encourage regrowth of any previously over plucked areas.

Eyebrow Palette in Bombshell was used to add definition and draw in the missing eyebrows I had. (You can see this in my images). This palette includes a highlighter for just under the eyebrows and then lighter eyebrow shadowing for daytime wear and darker eyebrow colour for the evening. I bought this palette for £20 at Beyond Beauty and now use it since my treatment to shape my eyebrows and use it as an eyeshadow mix for natural or smoky eyes.

Other Aftercare points included avoiding sun beds, swimming pools, saunas and fake tanning a couple of days after having the treatment. The only experience I had after having my treatment was a slight tingling sensation which I have experienced with threading before anyway.

THE RESULTS
So now for the results, which I am sure your are waiting to see! I was delighted with the results and can't believe how much it transformed my face and gave a new definition to my eyes. An instant wake-up calling for tired eyes.

Here are my before shots- you can see how I only have half eyebrows and there is no definition. (Usually I pencil my eyebrows in which can be time-consuming)

Here are my after pictures- you can see how my eyes look instantly better and it slims my face.

BEFORE AND AFTERS:

I do believe the best way to really see a beauty transformation
is to see before and after shots side by side:

See Top left I have normal eyebrows. Look at the other three images and see how it lifts my face.

Basic side by side shows you how a darker eyebrow tint can make eye colour pop

Half eyebrows are no problem as the Eyebrow Palette colour
is applied to lengthen the eyebrows

All images here you can see the definition that the eyebrows give to my face

Eyebrows above lack shape, eyebrows below frame the eyes

Top left, normal eyebrows.
The surrounding images show you the total effect of HD Brows

Overview
Keeping up the eyebrow shaping each day as been really easy as Carly has created an easy shape for me to follow. I am glad that there isn't a massive upkeep and that when I go back for a tidy up, it will be minimal. I would really recommend this treatment. It's quick at 25 mins, doesn't cost the earth at £30 and is easy to maintain at home. The effects are instant and it is non invasive so you won't have any soreness afterwards. Let me know what you think of my new HD Eyebrows or if you also have them.
