Celeb Colourist Jack Howard's Autumn-Winter Hair Colour Guide

Hair Colour Guide from an Expert for Autumn/Winter 14

Jack Howard, International Colour Director at Neville Hair & Beauty and the man at the forefront of bringing Balayage to the UK has created the covetable colours of Gillian Anderson and Vanessa Kirby, currently treading the boards in the sold out run of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Old Vic. Jack is colourist to Poppy Delevingne, Donna Air, Clara Paget, Ola Rudnicka, Chloe Hayward, Ana Beatriz Barros, Georgia Salpa, Hofit Golan, Next Model Management and more.
Swedish White Blonde
This is the runway shade that will continue to storm the catwalks this season - look at the beautiful Ola Rudnicka as your inspiration for this colour. A shade this dramatic isn't for everyone but it looks incredible on super pale skin tones, for that cool, fresh Scandinavian vibe – so perfect for an English winter. An all over blonde like Ola's is a high maintenance look as you need to get the roots coloured every 3-4 weeks, and protection is key for a shade like this; use Kerastase Fibre Architecte and Bain De Force. These products are an absolute must if you want to keep that icy shade as a colour at this level is incredibly delicate and needs lots of care.

Copper Red
I'm seeing copper tones everywhere at the moment; look at stars like Bonnie Wright, Christina Hendricks and Emma Stone as your poster girls for the look. Although the copper tones can vary from a stonewashed shade to a bright copper, this colour is all about a natural shiny looking finish rather than an artificial red. If you're not sure if you'd suit a cool or a warm tone, a great tip is hiding in your jewellery box; simply look at whether you lean towards silver (cool) or gold (warm) accessories as this will give you a great indication of the sort of shade you should be rocking. To keep your colour looking vibrant, I'd suggest investing in Kerastase Masque Chroma Riche – a godsend for coloured hair and it even includes UV and UVA protection. If you want healthy looking colour, you have to have healthy hair so always protect your hair when out in the sun or heat styling.

Super Dark, Glossy Brunette
This colour is super sultry, giving that old school Hollywood siren feel to your look (think Kim Kardashian's luxe locks) and its popularity goes to show that not everybody wants to be blonde! A shade this dark looks incredible on olive complexions or those with a deep tan – just pair with a bright red lipstick or a smokey eye for that seductive finish. If you're naturally pale, steer clear of a colour this dark as it can wash you out completely… With darker hair, you'll naturally get that maximum shine but to keep it in optimum condition use Shu Uemura Art of Hair Full Shimmer Shampoo and Conditioner.

The Caramel
Bronde is still the IT Girl's hottest shade as we move into A/W. The fusion of blonde and brunette is perfect for brunettes struggling with orange-toned highlights or blondes looking to give their colour a fresh spin (think Olivia Palermo, Jessica Alba and Victoria's Secret models), the secret is to stay within three shades of your natural colour. If hair jargon confuses you and you can't tell the difference between your dip-dye and your bronde, here's a handy guide: Dip Dye gives you a straight line between shades, Ombre creates a shadow between your chosen colours, giving you a subtle finish, Balayage is a natural looking highlight (Poppy Delevingne' s natural looking colour). Bronde is the hybrid of Ombre and Balayage which looks incredible on anyone whose colour falls between a dark blonde to a dark brunette. As the colour is not applied at the root, it's perfect for those who like a low maintenance colour, as there's minimal regrowth to deal with. To keep your colour looking gorgeous I suggest having a quick glaze treatment when your pop into the salon for a trim as this will help keep your colour looking A-list.

Jack is at Neville Hair & Beauty, 5 Pont Street, Belgravia, London SW1X 9EJ; The Bulgari Spa 171 Knightsbridge, London SW7 1DW, and Neville Salon St Barth, Taiwana Hotel, 97133 Saint Barthelemy, French West Indies.

Rimmel Partner With Singer Kate Nash for New Campaign

New Rimmel Make-up looks for Kate Nash
Style Icon and British singer songwriter Kate Nash has partnered with Rimmel London and legendary stylist Rachel Zoe's The Zoe Report to create three makeup looks. The recently blonde star, often deemed London's 'Indie Queen,' works with the team to achieve a Date Night Look, A Night Out With The Girls Look and a Performance Look.

The platinum selling performer says of the performance look, "It's just really in your face and just looking in the mirror makes me feel like I'm powerful." She goes on to say, "On stage is the most confident I ever feel. There's something really liberating about it. The more that I've performed, the freer I've felt, and fashion is a huge part of that."
Kate Nash is a platinum-selling artist and hailed as a global style icon. She is a recurring face in glossy magazines and a model for clothing companies on both sides of the Atlantic.
Kate released her first single in 2007 and was crowned 'Best Female Artist' at the 2008 BRIT Awards. Kate launched her third studio album in 2013 and is currently based in LA where she is working on her fourth album, as well as writing for Broadway musical, 'Only Gold.'

OPI Chasing Rainbows nail polish review.

OPI Sparkle Nail colour review

This is a great new supa dupa sparkle coat from OPI. Perfect for the party season, Chasing Rainbows contains pigments of pink, blue, green, purple, orange, yellow, silver and gold flecks which is a combo I haven't seen before.
The nail polish glides easily and you can break up the glitter easily with the brush as the particles are so small to distribute evenly.
The polish dries quite quickly in five minutes. I used the polish over a pink gel polish to give it a speckled barbie sparkle effect. I love this polish and can't wait to try it with other background polishes.
Great for the party season!

Photographer with Creative Flame at Parallax Art Fair

Gas-masked Artist Poses with Burning Umbrella to Create the Perfect Shot for Parallax Art Fair, Chelsea Town Hall, October 24-25.

If you are looking for an unusual and experimental art show to visit this month  then Parallax is a must see visit for you this month.

An artist exhibiting in the upcoming eleventh edition of Parallax Art Fair in October came close to setting himself on fire in the process of making one of his creations for the event. Darren Bailey LRPS, a member of the Royal Photographic Society, posed with an umbrella in flames to capture his image, “Environmental Annihilation”. He coated the outside of the umbrella with fire-retardant,  sticky felt pads, and the inside with tin foil. “The foil,” he explained, “served for safety and to reflect light from the six Manfrotto LED lights that were fixed on the underside to give the desired lighting for the shot. A small container fashioned from a Kinder Egg toy holder was attached to the underside of the umbrella in which I put the flu tester when it was ignited. This created the smoke in the picture.” Asked about the risk, he explained, “My creations all take time, effort, planning, research and thought to bring to life!”

Along with Bailey, Parallax Art Fair will uniquely exhibit almost 200 international makers and over 3000 pieces of fine, decorative and applied arts. All the exhibitors are self-representing makers selling in the £200-£10,000 price bracket.
Most have substantial exhibiting experience. Countries represented in October will include: Africa, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, UAE and UK. Alongside painting, sculpture and printmaking, there will be jewellery, photography, ceramics, textiles and even furniture. “One of things that we try to communicate to the visitor,” said Dr Chris Barlow, one of the founders, “is that we are interpreting these objects as objects. I cannot think of anything more detrimental to art making in the last 100 years than the gradual anthropomorphisation of art. It is one of the core implicit questions that we want the viewer to consider when visiting.”

There are benefits for all types of visitors to the fair in October though. For those wishing to purchase work by new or mature exhibitors, most with exhibiting and commercial business experience, PAF has proved to be one of the best wholesale markets.

Some of the artworks:
Seaside- Grant Legas

Carrot Head- Jake Oliver Fishman

Walk- Petr Malina

Buyers can take advantage of the same expertise, yet with lower prices than can be offered by galleries and other fairs due to its low exhibition overheads, 0% commission fee, free entrance, and makers central to the selling process. Some exhibitors are also tax free, saving thousands of pounds for buyers. The range of work is often higher and more varied than can be found in some galleries, which is probably why dealers are increasingly taking advantage of the low-price situation themselves. "I was unsure what to expect when I visited,” one London gallerist recently explained, “but I spotted a sculpture near the entrance. I chatted briefly to the artist, but did not mention who I was. I decided to run images past my clients. I sold one for £10,000 and then a further three more. I decided to commission the artist for more pieces."

The exhibition is free to the public and further information is available at

There is also a competition running in which you can win one of two £50 vouchers if you email before the 17th of October, quoting your THE GLAMOURCAT BLOG name in the subject line. Parallax only runs for two days (24th & 25th) so you must do this before then.

Parallax Art Fair opening details:
Thursday 23rd October: Private View, 7.30-9.30pm
Doors open to the Public:
Friday 24th October 1pm – 6pm
Saturday 25th October 11am- 5pm

Venue: Chelsea Town Hall, King’s Road, London, SW3 5EE
Entrance – Free.
